Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir Visits US Again, Boosting Military Ties
Pakistan’s Army Chief, General Asim Munir, has made his second trip to the United States in less than two months, signaling stronger military cooperation between the two nations.
During his visit, Munir met with US Joint Chiefs of Staff General John Dan Caine and invited him to visit Pakistan. According to the Pakistan military’s statement, the two leaders discussed matters of “mutual professional interest,” focusing on defense cooperation and regional security.
Munir also attended the retirement ceremony of US Central Command chief General Michael E. Kurilla, who handed over the position to Admiral Brad Cooper. At the event, Munir expressed his confidence in continuing joint efforts to tackle shared security challenges.
This visit follows Munir’s private lunch with US President Donald Trump at the White House just weeks ago. Widely regarded as the most influential figure in Pakistan, Munir plays a central role in shaping the country’s foreign policy, political strategy, and economic direction.
US–Pakistan relations have seen a notable improvement recently. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised Trump for mediating a ceasefire between Pakistan and India in May, though Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has refused to acknowledge Washington’s role in the peace process.
The latest visit by Munir marks another step toward deeper collaboration in defense, diplomacy, and regional stability.
