Cracker Barrel’s New Look Sparks Debate Among Loyal Customers
Cracker Barrel’s recent restaurant updates have sparked strong reactions from customers, with some praising the fresh design and others saying the chain is losing its signature charm.
The company insists its most-loved features — from rocking chairs and biscuits to the iconic peg game — are here to stay.
“The things you love about us will stay… that’s not changing,” chief marketing officer Sarah Moore told Fox Digital.
Why the Remodel?
Cracker Barrel says the redesign is part of an effort to “freshen up the experience” and attract new guests, while still honoring its country roots. The remodeling plan, first announced in 2024, includes a new color palette, updated décor, and changes to the menu.
Chief executive Julie Felss Masino previously acknowledged that some recipes and processes “haven’t evolved in decades,” and the brand needed to stay relevant — especially after losing some senior customers post-pandemic.
Fans Speak Out
After the company posted a video of the revamped interior on Instagram in July, opinions poured in. Some longtime customers were unimpressed:
- “Leave a classic a classic,” one person wrote.
- “The county charm is gone and the menu changed,” another said.
- “Not a fan of the new look… looks like a crossover from Applebee’s and Ponderosa,” a commenter added.
A few even compared the remodel to an “updated McDonald’s.”
Not Everyone is Against It
While criticism was loud, some customers welcomed the changes.
“I love it! A simple brightening along the walls. Love the food, friendly staff, and charming store,” one supporter commented, urging Cracker Barrel to keep its nostalgic gift shop intact.
The redesign rollout will continue across multiple locations as the brand works to balance tradition with a more modern look.
